We all have that friend (or two or three) who is nothing but drama. It’s the woman who says, “Oh.My.God. You are NEVER going to believe what Susan said about Linda” as soon as you walk into their house. It’s an assault on the sensibilities, to say the least. I am that friend today.
Donald Trump has appointed some very questionable people since January 20th. We have Rex Tillerson, Ben Carson in charge of HUD (like he knows anything about HUD) and Jeff Sessions. Jeff “I-Don’t-Recall” Sessions, people! And now he has appointed Lynne Patton as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Region II Director, which includes New York and New Jersey.
Who is Lynne Patton, you ask? I didn’t know, either. She is basically a high-end event planner. She has planned golf tournaments at Trump courses and arranged Eric Trump’s wedding. Now, she will be handling billions of taxpayer’s dollars in a position where she has absolutely no experience.
Woe unto the people who need help paying rent!
Her LinkedIn profile reads:
Responsible for organizing, executing and assisting with upscale events and celebrity golf tournaments. Handle celebrity talent acquisition for various marketing projects, philanthropic events and golf tournaments.
Excuse me if I’m wrong, but I didn’t think many people live on golf courses. Well, except Trump and other old, white guys.
Ms. Patton also included spurious education claims on her LinkedIn profile. Why not? It’s not as though anyone actually checks that stuff, right? Apparently, she listed being enrolled in Yale in the past. HUD officials could not find proof of her ever attending Yale. She also claims to have obtained a Juris Doctorate degree in 2000 from Quinnipiac University School of Law in Connecticut. Beside the J.D. notation, N/A is written without explanation. The school’s registrar, Jim Benson said Patton attended for two semesters but did not graduate. Alternative facts, which is the same as actual facts – at least to the Trump camp.
How fucking scary is it that a person with absolutely NO experience is put in charge of low-income housing for people who really need help – in an area as populous as New York and New Jersey? She has experience dealing with celebrities in celebratory settings, not handling billions of dollars to help the poor and working class. This is one more example of Trump doing what’s best for Trump – appointing puppets to do his bidding.
