Yet another Republican has made a stupid statement while on a news show. This time, it was Rep. Francis Rooney (R-FL) while being interviewed by Poppy Harlow and John Berman on CNN. Harlow pointed out that the Washington Post had recently gotten a transcript of the phone call between Trump and the Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and asked Rooney what he thought when Trump stated that the wall was not the most important thing they were discussing.
According to Rooney:
I don’t think anyone during the campaign seriously thought that Mexico was going to pay for that wall. We all believe that the wall is a metaphor for border security.
Yeah, he went there. Rooney is officially an asshat. I don’t think Trump actually knows what a metaphor is, between all that pussy grabbing and late night tweeting.
Berman reminded Rooney that Trump talked about building that wall and every rally during his campaign. Rooney hit back with:
These campaigns are full of all kinds of comments, promises, commitments, expressions, vitriolic diatribe and once the campaign is over, it’s time to move on to governing.
Ah, so he’s saying that Trump lied to everyone when he was trying to get elected. And he knew all along that they were empty promises. Okay, I’m glad that was clarified for everyone that voted for him while the rest of us tried to warn them.
Berman pointed out that Rooney just told us Trump lied, to which Rooney stated that a lot of past presidents have made statements that turned out to be empty promises when Harlow interrupted with:
Hold on, Congressman. He said it after the campaign. I mean, he said it in the White House.
Ah, here’s the clincher: Trump kept yammering on about that damn wall even after the election. Kind of hard to excuse that as he was trying to get elected when he was still promising that even when he was in the White House. Rooney tried to back track at the end by saying:
I don’t think anyone really thought that the Mexicans were going to pay for the wall.President Trump was not a professional politician.
Well, he’s never been a politician, that’s why people voted for him. He convinced them he was better because he isn’t a professional politician. Or they were just idiots and decided they didn’t like Hilary, so they decided to vote for him instead.
