Since Donald Trump entered the presidential race, two very long years ago, the media has been exhausted. Even the writers of little ol’ Left Wing Nation are absolutely fucking exhausted and we are just a small blog. Sometimes our writers have to take extended breaks because they are so burned out, so we imagine journalists feel as if their batteries are on empty. That’s why this tweet resonates so much with those of us in the media:

Donald Trump causes our jobs in the media to be extra rough for a number of reasons. One reason is the never ending flow of work. Our good friends at Wonkette have talked about this on a number of occasions, recently saying:
The Washington Post has ruined our Friday night AGAIN, this time with news that Jared Kushner, the 36-year-old real estate developer son-in-law of President Donald Trump, when secretly meeting with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and then declining to list it in his security background check forms, asked the Russian ambassador to let Trump transition officials use secure channels inside the Russian embassy to have secret talks with Vladimir Putin.
Seriously, once upon a time, we used to get weekends off, but that is no longer the case. The Friday night news dumps (and leaks) literally happen every.single.fucking.week. And of course, the journalists at sites like the WaPo have to bring the news to us no matter the day, so it seems like our heroes are working non-stop. We need to impeach Trump just so we can all get a weekend off.
Another one of the reasons journalists are so rundown is because of the president’s attacks. Now, his bullshit about the “fake media” doesn’t really bother sites like ours, because let’s face it, we are extremely partisan and it’s no secret. Anyone who calls us “fake news” is obviously too lazy to click the citations in the articles and we know Republicans who read our site are just looking to complain. However, for the journalists at The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, etc it is infuriating. The president of the United States is intentionally undermining the American people’s trust in their work and in essence attacking the very foundation of our democracy. Now, not only is the media not getting a fricken break ever, they are having to constantly defend themselves.
Finally, holy shit the lies. There are so many lies coming from the White House it is hard to keep them straight. That means the media’s fact-checkers are in perpetual overdrive. It sort of feels like when you listen to you kid tell you 6,000 lies about why they didn’t wash the dishes before you got home.
And with all of that in mind, it’s no wonder we can relate to the tweet. We actually look like that nowadays. Help us.
