A Republican state senator who built his career on “family values” and loathing of LGBTs has been exposed as an incestuous hypocrite thanks to his lover’s divorce trial.
Dr. Joey Hensley of tiny Hohenwald, Tennessee has so far refused to testify in the proceedings and denies the affair. But testimony by the town’s Vice Mayor Don Barber and his wife Lori establishes that Hensley began having sexual congress with her after she began working as a nurse in Hensley’s practice.
Not only is Lori Barber Hensley’s second cousin and employee, she has also been his patient, a probable violation of state medical board ethics rules against doctors prescribing opioids for their romantic partners.
Shortly before the affair began with office sex(!), Hensley’s fourth marriage(!) had also ended in divorce. In fact, his ex-wife is responsible for Don Barber learning of Lori’s adultery.
All of this salacious small-town scandal is quite contrary to the image that Sen. Hensley has projected throughout his political career, which the Nashville Scene sums up thusly:
Hensley gained national notoriety in 2012 as a sponsor of the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, which would have banned public school teachers from even mentioning that homosexuality exists. During one hearing that year, Hensley commented, ‘I don’t think Modern Family is appropriate for children to watch’ — because it features a married gay couple raising children. This session, Hensley is sponsoring a bill from the Tennessee Family Action Council that would make children created using donor sperm illegitimate — an attempt to make it harder for gay and lesbian parents to establish paternity. He is also a sponsor of the so-called ‘Milo Bill,‘ aimed at liberal practices on college campuses.
“You know the old Tennessee saying,” Evan Hurst quips at Wonkette. “If you can’t keep it in your pants, keep it in the family, BUT KEEP IT OUT OF ANOTHER GUY’S B-HOLE.”
