Republican values are built on the “traditional” family model. They believe that the story of Adam and Eve in the Bible is law and that any couples such as Amy and Eve are sinners. They believe in 2.5 children, a good job, faith-based activities and carrying their guns for the possible scenario they need to draw them to protect their families. They believe in the old American Dream and make sure to denounce godless Democrats for being morally inferior at every opportunity.
This is in part what shocks us the most when these conservatives get caught in a sex scandal. It’s hypocritical and it goes against the morals they supposedly live by and ram down everyone else’s throats. Yes, we are all human. We all make mistakes. However, the anti-diversity Republicans who find themselves entangled in sinful situations are extra juicy because no one likes a screaming hypocrite.
We have compiled a list of holier-than-thou Republicans who have been caught not practicing what they preach.
10. Roy Ashburn
California State Senator Roy Ashburn voted against every piece of LGBT rights legislation that ever crossed his desk. On March 3, 2010, he was pulled over for drunk driving while leaving a popular gay club with another man in his car. The arrest sparked scrutiny about his sexuality and the hypocrisy of his voting record. Later the same year, Ashburn came out in a radio interview. This was a case of the lady protesting too much.
9. James E. West
Former Spokane Mayor James E. West also opposed every gay rights bill that came across his desk. It was a huge surprise when he was accused by two former boy scouts of molesting them. West eventually confirmed he had offered gifts, favors and an internship in Internet chats with a man he believed to be 18, but denied the molestation charges. He was eventually removed from office by a special election. Before his death in 2006, he said he regretted voting for a bill that banned discussion of homosexuality or LGBT rights in schools.
8. David Vitter
Senator David Vitter (R-LA) is known for extreme conservatism. Vitter supported an amendment that would ban gay marriage nationwide, promoted abstinence-only sex education, and called for school board meetings in Louisiana to begin with prayers. It turns out that Mr. Vitter loves Jesus so much that he cheated on his wife using a DC escort service in 2007. This wasn’t boring missionary, either. Vitter paid hookers to diaper him like a baby. Apparently, diapering for sexual gratification is OK, but two dudes having butt sex is gross.
7. Ted Haggard
Ted Haggard was a well-known evangelical and huge supporter of George Bush. He was responsible for touting all that GOP “values voters” crap in 2004. Haggard has vigorously spoken against abortion, premarital sex, adultery and gay marriage. However, Haggard not only has a love for cheating on his wife with young male hookers, he also loves crystal meth. Drugs and homosexual affairs – because, apparently, that’s the new Christian way.
6. Joey Hensley
Tennessee Senator Joey Hensley ran on a platform of Christian family values. He had an affair with his second cousin. Not only was she his second cousin, but she also worked for his medical practice where she was also a patient. Confused yet? He was also accused of prescribing her opioids to feed her addiction. The allegations came during testimony in the cousin’s divorce trial. Hensley sounds like a pious Christian family man, doesn’t he?
5. Ralph Shortey
Republican Oklahoma Senator Ralph Shortey also preached about family values. It was very family-like of him when he was caught with a 17-year-old boy in a hotel room smoking pot. The pair had met on Craigslist and had spoken for around a year. Shortey was charged with soliciting the prostitution of a minor, transportation for the purpose of prostitution, and prostitution within 1,000 feet of a church – all felonies.
4. Newt Gingrich
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was (and still is) an unbearable Republican twit. He was one of the loudest critics of Clinton when he had the affair with Monica Lewinsky. Of course, while Newt was bashing Clinton, he was serving his sick and dying wife divorce papers on her deathbed. How very, very Christian of him! He’s now on his third wife because he just can’t find the right woman to satisfy his need for hypocrisy.
3. Herman Cain
Conservative Herman Cain announced his bid for President in 2011. However, four sex scandals stopped his bid short. Cain had been accused by two women of sexual harassment and misconduct during his time as CEO of the National Restaurant Association. in the late 1990s. Harassment accusations were later made by two more women. Cain acknowledged that financial settlements were made to the complainants. So much for sexual conservatism.
2. Robert Bentley
Former Republican Alabama Governor Richard Bentley is one of the most recent victims of wandering dick. He and his senior political advisor, Rebekah Caldwell Mason, had an ongoing sexting session in addition to secret meetings. He bullied his subordinates into keeping his affair secret. He also allowed Ms. Mason to use government cars while the affair was happening. Just one more man with “family values” proving Republicans do not hold the championship in morality.
1. Josh Duggar
Josh Duggar, director and former star of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting takes the entire cake when it comes to right-wing hypocrisy. While not an elected official, Duggar was a loud opponent of gay marriage and gay rights. He once claimed that gays are a “threat to children.” Ha! This pile of loose dog excrement was found to have molested several underage girls as a teenager. These girls included his own younger sisters. His very Christian parents covered it up because that’s what you do when your son molests your daughter. Totally normal.
These hypocrites all prove that Republicans are full of shit – especially when it comes to empty testaments of godly-inspired values to gain votes from the Christian right. We have to wonder if their voters are as full of shit as their politicians.
