This week the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater in Texas announced it would offer a women-only screening for Wonder Woman. “Awesome!” I hear you cry, about time women get some much-needed space to get their fan-girl on! Normal people might say that, but if you are one of the thin-skinned, male keyboard warriors who feel their rights are being flagrantly trounced on by mean and nasty, oppressive women, then you are probably screaming. (We don’t think any of our readers our thin-skinned, man-babies, but if you are, turn back now.)
You can’t make this shit up.
Women were offered a single screening of a movie that has been considerably under marketed compared to Warner Bros’ other franchises, like Justice League and Batman, and men lose their ever loving minds. According to the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University, female protagonists only accounted for 29% of the top grossing films in 2016. It’s not like women are stepping on anyone’s toes here. I have to wonder if the fact that all proceeds from the event will be donated to Planned Parenthood added to the chemical fire that is the male fragile ego? Twitter, as usual, saw both the best and the worst reactions:

Oh hooray, a man has no problem with this. Ladies, we can cast off the scarlet A’s now. Man says it’s all good, granted with the “but” included. Yeah, I don’t think you actually meant that at all.

If the Alamo had rented out their theater for a private event, the women only screening wouldn’t be a problem or illegal. They didn’t though

Except it kind of is a private event when people are paying full price for tickets and all the proceeds are donated to charity. As for illegal, does that make all gentleman’s clubs illegal, or how about ladies nights at bars and clubs? See how that works Matt?
@AlamoNYC Hi, As a man with a really fragile ego where can I start a boycott that I will totally break later on?

Men complaining about the all woman screening of Wonder Woman can go to Saudi Arabia and see Toby Keith perform.

“Have you ever hosted a men’s only showing of any film?” Facebook user Bill Fairbrother asked Drafthouse.
“We’ve never done showings where you had to be a man to get in, but we *did* show the Entourage movie a few years ago,” the Drafthouse’s official account replied.
And the Drafthouse’s reaction to all the online hate? Why sell out and be forced to create more all-women screenings of course.
My only regret is, there isn’t a Drafthouse isn’t anywhere near me, because I’d be front n’ center with my daughter in tow.
