Dr. Daniel Kammen has become today’s hero in the resistance against Donald Trump. Kammen has served as a science envoy for the State Department since 2009. He resigned today and shared his resignation letter on Twitter – you know, since that’s how Trump likes to communicate with all his subjects. Kammen’s resignation comes on the heels of Trump’s response to the recent events in Charlottesville, Virginia.
His letter reads in part,
My decision to resign is in response to your attacks on core values of the United States. Your failure to condemn white supremacists and neo-Nazis has domestic and international ramifications.
Bravo, sir! It’s not difficult to condemn the racists who showed up to Charlottesville to spread hate. The letter goes on to say,
Examples of this destructive pattern have consequences on my duties as Science Envoy. Your decisions to abdicate the leadership opportunities and job creation benefits of the Paris Climate Accord, and to undermine energy and environmental research are not acceptable to me.
It should not be acceptable to anyone. Trump’s decision to leave the Paris Climate Accord was direct pandering to the rich business owners who want to see less environmental regulations. With less regulations, they can continue turning profits at higher rates while continuing to kill our environment.
Perhaps the best part of Kammen’s letter is that the first letter of every paragraph spelled out “Impeach.” That’s right – just a little message for Trump in case he needs a push.
This is the letter Kammen addressed to Trump and tweeted to us today:
Mr. President, I am resigning as Science Envoy. Your response to Charlottesville enables racism, sexism, & harms our country and planet. pic.twitter.com/eWzDc5Yw6t

The following Twitter exchange sums up our feelings on this letter:
I’m waiting for the spell out of “fuck Trump” resignation letter. (A girl can dream)
