It looks as though Republicans have zero interest in fulfilling their constitutional duties regarding the nations highest court, STILL… It appears to be completely oblivious to them why their approval rating is in the toilet, but they are going to persist in their destructive actions to destroy their own party.
The Hill reports:
President Obama is pressing Senate Republicans to hold a hearing for his Supreme Court pick Merrick Garland more than a month after he nominated the judge.
“It’s now been 45 days since I nominated Judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court,” Obama said in his weekly address Saturday.
“But so far, most Senate Republicans have refused to even meet with Judge Garland. Which means they’ve also refused to do their job and hold a hearing on his nomination, or an up-or-down vote.”
The president needled Republicans for having “found time to head home for recess over the next week” even as they refuse to act on the nomination.
It is so amazing how Republicans can find the time, and energy, to work on non issues like:
- Cutting Planned Parenthood funding
- Gutting the Social Safety Net
- Cutting education funding
- Killing the PPACA, aka “Obamacare”
- Restricting abortion
- Calling a recess to go home
- Restricting rights of those they don’t approve of
The question they won’t answer is: “Why can’t you find the time to do the job you swore to do as well as uphold the Constitution?”
So far, only a few Republican Senators have met with the President’s nominee, but it looks like they aren’t going to give him any support whatsoever in the nomination process. Just like in the old USSR, they are gonna toe that party line no matter what. Even if it costs them an election. The rest of them, especially that moronic “Freedom” Caucus, are going to be just as obstinate as ever regarding this matter.
Republicans are counting their chickens before they hatch, because they assume that they are going to keep control of Congress and take the White House in the November elections. If people are smart, Republicans will be routed out of power just like it happened in the past.
