Pokemon GO has now officially taken over the world.
On Saturday night, Michael “Venom” Page fought Evangelista “Cyborg” and won the match with a particularly brutal knee to the face. Evangelista went down but what happened next was….unexpected.
Page ran to the side of the cage where someone handed him a hat and a pokeball. Donning the hat, a replica of the one wore by Pokemon character “Ash Ketchum,” Page then shows off his pokeball to the audience and rolls it at the downed “Cyborg.” If you are one of the 10 people left on the planet not familiar with Pokemon or Pokemon GO, this is how you capture a wild Pokemon after you’ve defeated it.
And then, this really happened, Page struck the “Yatta!” pose of victory that’s a staple of anime (Japanese animation for the uncool kids out there) in general and made famous throughout the world by Pokemon.
Here’s the video:
Page’s opponent doesn’t seem to be offended about being “captured,” although that probably has more to do with the fact that he may not survive the damage from the fight. That last shot literally caved the front of his skull in and Evangelista will require extensive surgery. His ex-wife has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for the costs.
