On this Sunday’s Meet the Press, California Governor Jerry Brown spoke about Trump’s stance on immigration and his plan to build the infamous wall. While I don’t think that Governor Brown is the most eloquent speaker, he did make a good point during the few minutes he was on the show.
He spoke about the moral aspect of building a wall between the U.S. and Mexico. He speculated that building the wall is not keeping in the lines of Christianity.
We are going to do the right, human and I would even say the Christian thing from my point of view. You don’t treat human beings like that. That is not what — Trump’s supposed to be Mr. Religious Fellow and I thought we had to treat the least of these as we would treat the Lord. So I hope he would reconnect with some of his conservative evangelicals and they’ll tell him that these are human beings and they’re children of God, they should be treated that way.
The obvious, knee-jerk response would be to criticize his example of Christian values. The United States does not have a national religion. However, what he’s doing is using the Christian right’s tactics against them. So many of them use their religious ideals to judge the left on everything between the pro-choice stance to belief in equal rights. It gets tiresome.
Breitbart‘s readers were quick to defend themselves – and failed miserably.
OUR president did say this is NOT a Christian nation because it’s not. That is one of the greatest perks to living in the United States. No person can tell another how to worship. However, when Christianity is the very basis of every argument you have against liberals, it kind of matters. If it can be used to support you, it can be used to expose you.
Keep your moral superiority to yourself, your ignorance is showing. Morals are not exclusive to Christianity, moron.
I normally sleep very well at night, thank you. Not one person who is pro-choice looks at abortion from a religious perspective – they look at it from a human perspective – from the perspective that women should have autonomy of their own bodies.
Next, a Breitbart reader will insinuate that immigrants are rapists and pedophiles and couldn’t possibly add anything positive to this country. *facepalm*
These comments amuse me. Those on the Christian right have no qualms using their religion to support their political beliefs. They also enjoy cherry-picking verses to shame others for having differing views. Once the table is turned, they object. Turnabout is fair play, is it not?
