Krystal Olsen, a bartender from New York who works in Arizona, had the misfortune of experiencing what many women do when they are out at night: an unwanted grope by a stranger. Olsen was at a bar when a guy walked up to her and grabbed her ass. However, instead of freezing like I have when someone has done it to me, Krystal kicked some ass and her tweet about the incident has now gone viral.
Yeah, he made a YUGE mistake when he thought he could Donald Trump Krystal that night. In addition to sitting on the ground crying like a wimp, Mr. Grabass was arrested for assaulting her.
Sadly, the type of assault Krystal experienced that night is shockingly common in the United States according to a 2014 study by the Virginia-based organization Stop Street Harassment:
The survey found that 65% of all women had experienced street harassment. Among all women, 23% had been sexually touched, 20% had been followed, and 9% had been forced to do something sexual.
What’s even more alarming is that over half of the people surveyed said their first encounter with a creeper happened before they were 17-years-old. That’s right, our children can not walk down the road, into a store or on public transportation without worrying about some fucking weirdo saying something to them or putting their grubby hands on them.
Republicans spend a lot of time “warning” their voters about how scary the LGBT community is, but it’s not the members of the LGBT community who are walking into bars and sexually assaulting women because they feel fucking entitled. It’s men like them. Like their president. Like Brock Turner. And every single person who voted for Donald Trump in this country gave men like the guy pictured above a green light to sexually assault whomever they choose.
Thanks a lot, assholes.
