Former Sheriff of Maricopa County, Joe Arpaio, has spoken out for the first time since his notorious pardon. And it’s not what he said that’s interesting — let’s face it, it’s more of the same self-aggrandizing B.S. he usually spills — it’s where he said it that’s interesting.
Accordingly, he gave his speech to the American Free Press — an internet rag condemned for spreading anti-Semitic conspiracy theories by the Anti-Defamation League.
Joe Arpaio’s actions over the course of his time in office were monstrous and sickening. As Arpaio’s officers were harassing, detaining, and beating citizens and non-citizens alike, with jail employees routinely calling inmates “wetbacks” or leaving them to die on the floor, Arpaio let hundreds of serious sexual abuse cases go uninvestigated, in one case resulting in a child being continually raped. He was not just a “tough” sheriff, but a cruel and incompetent one, faking clearance reports for serious crimes while abusing the power of his office to arrest and intimidate journalists, judges, and county officials.
So naturally, all this thrilled the hard-right wingers, who, like dogs, haven’t met an authoritarian whose leg they won’t hump vigorously. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Arpaio — always keenly aware of his own social standing — spoke out to a rag that spreads anti-Semitic lies. He’s talking to his people.
How do we know this digital garbage dump is anti-Semitic? To start with, it’s actually run headlines like “AUDIO INTERVIEW: Jewish Fingerprints All Over 9-11″ and “Third Consecutive Zionist Jew to Head U.S.’s Economic Warfare Division.” A third example, “Why Can We Question Anything but the ‘Holocaust’?” was scrubbed from the site as “satire” — the universal defense for terrible people online.
They also sell a book called The Holocaust Never Happened. Holocaust denialism, blaming Jewish people for 9-11, questioning the Holocaust — I mean, I’m not sure what you call that if you aren’t willing to call it “anti-Semitic,” aside from a raging dumpster fire.
This isn’t the first time Arpaio’s given an interview with this inflamed puss-filled genital blister of a site, either. The human-shaped septic infection gave one back in 2014 when he was still sheriff.
I’ve heard people say, “Oh, but he’s in his 80s, he shouldn’t be sent to prison.” Yes, he should’ve. And he should’ve died there, just like he let all the people under his watch die.
