Are Republicans Encouraging The Spread Of The Zika Virus To Hold On To Power?

Let me just state that this article is pure speculation on my part. That being said, it fits a disturbing pattern of Republican behavior so bear with me.

For months, Republicans have been stalling funding to deal with the imminent spread of the Zika virus in the United States. Aside from being lethal on its own, the Zika virus causes babies in utero to develop micro-encephalitis, a condition where the brain does not develop fully. It cannot be fixed or mitigated in any way. It renders most children mentally and physically retarded for life.

Republicans have all kinds of excuses as to why they won’t lift a finger but I suspect that they’re perfectly fine with tens of thousands, if not more, of babies being born with a crippling and expensive deformity.

Let’s put a few facts together:

  1. Republicans have a visceral disdain for the poor and middle class. We know this because they have spent decades finding every way possible to make their lives more difficult. From cuts to public education to cuts to food stamps to a scorched earth opposition to Obamacare, Republicans have made it very clear they are working against the best interest of 99% of the country.
  2. Republicans have made access to abortion incredibly difficult as a form of economic warfare. Low income women are increasingly unable to procure this constitutionally protected medical procedure at the same time Republicans have been trying to limit the availability of birth control.
  3. Families that are struggling economically are both unable to organize against the people oppressing them and more easily fooled by hate-filled propaganda telling them to blame Mexicans/gays/black people/etc.

So Republicans are blocking efforts to stop the Zika virus. Combine this with a system that allows women with money to abort a damaged fetus but forces the poor to give birth to them, and you have a new way to economically cripple the very people that Republicans are always targeting anyway.

Like I said, this is pure speculation, but when one political party regularly compares food stamps and school lunches to feeding wild animals, it’s not hard to believe the absolute worst of them.
