Tensions reached a fevered pitch between the United States and North Korea on Tuesday after Donald Trump threatened the country with “fire and fury.” Go figure. Kim Jong Un was not impressed with Trump’s bluster and bravado, so now he is threatening to attack Guam preemptively if the U.S. doesn’t stop its provocation. And guess what? Most Americans have no faith in Trump to handle the situation. Imagine that. (Insert eye roll here.)
According to a CBS News poll, 61 percent of respondents doubt that Trump will be able to handle the conflict with Pyongyang and only 35 percent had confidence that he won’t end up getting us all killed.
The poll also found that 72 percent of those polled were uneasy about the conflict and a mere 26 percent believe that the conflict will be resolved without the whole world being bombed into oblivion.
The CBS poll was conducted from August 3 – 6 and included 1,111 adults. The margin of error is 4 percentage points. However, this means that these were the numbers before Trump decided to play Russian roulette with American lives by threatening North Korea rather than trying to use a little diplomacy.
At the time of the poll, 60 percent of respondents believed that the threat posed by North Korea could be contained and only 29 percent thought we should take military action now. But then Trump pronounced that “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States.”
Trump told reporters,
He has been very threatening beyond a normal state, and as I said they will be met with fire, fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before.
Following Trump’s threats, South Korean media began reporting that North Korea was threatening to attack Guam.
North Korea is considering a plan to fire missiles at Guam, state media said. A spokesman for North Korea’s military told KCNA that it would carry out a pre-emptive operation if there were signs of U.S. provocation.

I could be wrong, but I’m betting the number of people who doubt Trump’s ability to handle this situation without causing a nuclear war just went through the roof today. And I’m also pretty sure that the number of people who think that the threat posed by North Korea can be contained has completely bottomed out. Just a guess.
