Shortly after Donald Trump was accused of sexually assaulting multiple women the Republican presidential nominee started insinuating that he never would have touched them because they are ugly. Apparently the giant orange monster thinks he is the most attractive man in the universe and as such he has the “authority” to judge women on their looks (haha). Now, unsurprisingly, his inner circle and supporters are pushing the same misogynistic rhetoric.
During an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Tuesday, Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen claimed that the dozen women who have said the self-proclaimed billionaire assaulted them are all too unattractive for it to be true,”Beauty is in the eye of beholder … these aren’t even women he’d be attracted to.” Cohen, who said he is a registered Democrat (sure, he is), went on to say that he personally doesn’t believe the women’s looks are “relevant” but that didn’t stop him from continuing to push the narrative. “I think what Mr. Trump is really trying to say is that they’re not somebody that he would be attracted to, and therefore, the whole thing is nonsense.”
It’s infuriating that men like Cohen are supporting Trump’s attempt to explain away his rapey tendencies by trashing the looks of beautiful, strong women. They are perpetuating the disgusting rape culture in this country by allowing him to get away with it. It’s also alarming that someone with an educated man like Cohen doesn’t seem to understand that sexual assault has almost nothing to do with sexual gratification and everything to do with power. It isn’t the woman’s looks, clothes, body that turns a predator on, it’s the thrill they get from having control over her–even if it is for a moment. According to Minnesota State University:
Studies show that the major motive for rape is power, not sex. Sex is used as a weapon to inflict pain, violence and humiliation. Most rapists appear to have normal personalities with an abnormal tendency to be aggressive and violent. Between 2/3 and 3/4 of sexual assaults are planned in advance.
THAT is why Trump puts his grubby little hands on women and he admitted it himself in the Access Hollywood video when he talked about being a “star” and therefore getting away with his sexual assaults.
Donald Trump is a sad little man who has no business running for president, let alone making it behind the desk in the Oval Office.
